DraftKings has agreed to give back $3m to around 7,000 customers in Connecticut after reaching a settlement with the state’s Department of Consumer Protection (DCP). Eligible customers who participated in the applicable promotions will get their refund within 60 business days of the settlement.

DCP claimed that the promotions didn’t properly show the wagering requirements

The issue was the operator’s bonus offers, which allegedly breached gaming laws from October 2021 until January 2023. The DCP claimed that the promotions didn’t properly show the wagering requirements that players had to meet before converting the bonus funds into real money.

While DraftKings still maintains that it did nothing wrong, it will need to ensure that all playthrough requirements are clearly disclosed in future marketing materials as per the settlement agreement. The Boston-based operator will also have to provide annual training to its employees regarding advertising and marketing laws in Connecticut and invest $50,000 in consumer complaint resolution education and programs.

DraftKings has been the subject of similar lawsuits in other states recently, including Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.
