FanDuel has announced that it is winding down its retail sportsbook at PHX Arena, the home of the NBA’s Phoenix Suns, next month. The sportsbook opened in September 2021 on the same day that legal sports betting went into effect in Arizona.

most notably in September when it lost $2.6 million

The 7,400-square-foot space will turn into the FanDuel Lounge, so staff won’t accept in-person sports bets starting July 24. It had 26 self-service kiosks and five betting windows, but revenues were underwhelming compared to FanDuel’s online numbers in the state. The retail operation even suffered some seven-figure losses, most notably in September when it lost $2.6m.

People will be able to mail-in tickets that are still outstanding by July 24 if they generate winnings.

With this departure, the retail sportsbooks at major league sports venues in Arizona are Caesars Sportsbook at Chase Field, the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, and BetMGM’s retail sportsbooks at the Arizona Cardinals’ State Farm Stadium.
