A game development firm has claimed in a lawsuit that it originally designed the game mechanic that powers Evolution’s popular Lightning live dealer titles. Taiwanese firm Jumbo Technology’s patent infringement suit says that the “dynamic raised odds” feature which generates boosted odds in games like baccarat and roulette is its own creation.

alerted Evolution in June 2024 about the issue and offered to issue a license

The complaint alleges that Evolution willfully infringed on the patent. Jumbo Technology supposedly alerted Evolution in June 2024 about the issue and offered to issue a license for the patent in return for a royalty. Evolution didn’t agree to anything in subsequent negotiations and continued to use the technology.

Jumbo now wants damages, enhanced compensation for the infringement, and legal costs. Talking about the popularity of the game mechanic, the plaintiff’s legal team described how throwing the dynamic odds element into the mix of gameplay “adds excitement and unpredictability to the outcome.” This means more player engagement thanks to occasionally boosted payouts while the operator still maintains profitability.

Jumbo claims that Evolution uses the feature as a big selling point when it’s looking to work with online casinos and promoting games at trade shows. Specific titles using the feature include Lightning Dice, Red Door Roulette, Lightning Roulette, and Lightning Baccarat.
