The feds accuse Stanley Borone Brumfield and Andre Jawaan Smith of running a scheme to steal hundreds of thousands of dollars in state income tax refunds.
The Louisiana Department of Revenue took to X last week with news of the charges:
According to the Louisiana body, Smith sent fabricated withholding tax forms to the US government’s tax collector, claiming gambling winnings of $741,978.
The feds stated in a news release that Smith claimed an unlawful state income tax refund of over $17,000 “based on the tax withholding calculated for the phony winnings.”
Brumfield, meanwhile, is accused of sending a faked withholding form claiming gambling winnings of $1,225,000 from Baton Rouge and Tampa, Florida casinos.
According to the feds, investigators stated the casinos in question had no records of the pair’s wins.
