With the list of previous winners of the US Open at Oakmont Country Club a who’s who of the sport, most people were expecting a big name like Scottie Scheffler to come out victorious.

34-year-old JJ Spaun tore up the script, though, after he sunk a 65-foot birdie putt on his final hole to win the Major Championship by two shots:

Spaun was +15000 to win the tournament before the action kicked off on Thursday and overcame dropping five shots on his first six holes on Sunday to storm back into contention.

In his post-round press conference, Spaun revealed why his day didn’t start on the best footing: he had to drive to CVS at 3am to get medication for his daughter, who was throwing up. He fittingly went on to claim the US Open on Father’s Day.
