After the shocking double-shooting that took place in front of the busy Bellagio Fountains on Sunday night, many people no longer feel comfortable visiting the Las Vegas Strip.
A poll that Las Vegas Locally posted on X asking people if they thought that the Strip had become too dangerous received almost 10,000 at the time of writing, indicating the current sentiment:
While opinions were clearly split, almost 42% of respondents thinking that it’s too dangerous among the bright lights of Las Vegas, a concerning statistic for a city that relies so heavily on tourism.
already on a downward trend due to the ongoing cost of living crisis and foreign policy
Tourism is already on a downward trend in Las Vegas due to the ongoing cost of living crisis and foreign policy, with year-on-year visitor numbers to Harry Reid International Airport dropping 3.4% in May and overall visitors to the city falling 5.1%.
Poll respondents gave a wide range of viewpoints. Some remarked that Las Vegas is no more dangerous than other major US cities and that there’s always going to be a few newsworthy incidents, while others said there’s been an uptick in sketchy people hanging around the tourist areas.
Whatever the case, city officials and casinos will be looking to do whatever they can to fix the reputation that the Las Vegas Strip is starting to get.
