A Washington County District Court judge has sentenced one of the five men behind the violent robbery of a Minnesota, Treasure Island Casino winner to almost five years in prison.
Judge Siv Mjanger on Tuesday sentenced Shawn Eric Lewis Jr. to 58 months in jail. Lewis Jr., 37, pleaded guilty in January to first-degree aggravated robbery of the unnamed victim in December 2023.
The crime occurred after the victim was returning home from Prairie Island Indian Community-owned Treasure Island flush with more than $38,000 in casino winnings. On arrival at his Minneapolis home, two men brutally attacked the victim, fleeing with his casino winnings.
beaten and bloodied”
Lewis Jr. was one of five men charged in relation to the robbery that left the 68-year-old “beaten and bloodied.”
Judge Mjanger, however, tossed an appeal for leniency on Lewis’ behalf from his attorneys who highlighted their client’s addiction to fentanyl, instead condemning the crime as a “very, very violent act” that could have proved fatal.
According to reports, the victim still suffers after-effects of the assault he thought would leave him dead.
