Well-known American country singer Jamey Johnson has told a story about a time when Gamblers Anonymous refused a donation from Matthew McConaughey due to the money coming from a losing bet.

The two friends made a wager on a 2010 college football clash between Alabama and the Texas Longhorns in the BCS National Championship game. The loser had to donate $300 to the victor’s charity of choice.

gambling addiction treatment organization claimed that it couldn’t accept the funds

With Alabama defeating Texas 37-21, McConaughey was tasked with donating money to Gamblers Anonymous. After sending the payment, it bounced back. The gambling addiction treatment organization claimed that it couldn’t accept the funds “because of the way” that McConaughey got them.

While Johnson claimed the victory in 2010, McConaughey got revenge in 2023 when his alma mater beat Alabama 34-24 in Tuscaloosa.
