The New York-based prediction market giant Polymarket is offering odds on the still at-large fugitives who broke out of a New Orleans prison on May 16.
While law enforcement has already arrested five of the ten escapees, the fate of the remaining five has become a market.
Social media has exploded over Polymarket’s lines, with Barstool Sports taking to X Wednesday to share news of the remaining fugitives:
The prisoners made world news Friday after escaping the Orleans Parish Correctional Facility through a hole in the toilet wall. Social media users were quick to share the graffiti the escapees purposely left their prison guards, such as the escape being too “easy LOL.”
As of Wednesday evening, Polymarket was offering a betting market on the perps recapture by Friday, with Lenton Vanburen the favorite to avoid law enforcement the longest.
armed and dangerous”
One of Polymarket’s favorites to get caught first is the convicted two count second-degree murder felon, Derrick Groves. The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, meanwhile, has urged the public not to confront the runaways, describing them as “armed and dangerous.”
Polymarket promoted the market as prisoner parlays, the post receiving over one million views on X.
A Reddit user IllustriousAnt485 exemplified the betting interest in the prison break by commenting on Vanburen that: “He will find a way to survive and get away. It’s in his blood.”
“The others are straight up cornballs who will be caught or go out with a bang. My money is on Lenton.”
