WNBA star Caitlin Clark deemed them the “GREATEST COMEBACK TEAM” she’d ever seen, and the NBA itself labeled them “COMEBACK KINGS,” the Indiana Pacers put on a show last night against all the odds. The team played the New York Knicks in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals in New York.
The Pacers were down double digits late in the fourth quarter and +4000 on the in-game moneyline against the Knicks. They went on to score 23 points in the final 3:14 of regulation time – the most in the final 3:14 of a playoff game since 1997.
According to a post by BetMGM on X, NBA teams were 994-0 when leading by 14+ points with 2:45 left in the fourth quarter, which was the position the Knicks found themselves in. That is, until last night. Now the total stands at 994-1, thanks to the Pacers’ epic finish. Tyrese Haliburton hit a deep two-pointer to send the game to overtime in the final second.
Then this happened in the final moments of overtime:
The Pacers outscored the Knicks 13-10 in overtime, ending the game 138-135 winners.
Considering the stats, it is easy to see why Clark and the NBA crowned the Pacers comeback royalty. The team has had four 17-point comebacks this playoffs, the most by any team in a single postseason since 1998, in addition to three 7-point comebacks in the final minute, only replicated by one other team in 2014.
we just continue to do it time and time again.”
Pacers forward Aaron Nesmith said: “This is what we live for. This is what we work every day for. Work so hard for is to perform and to show up in these moments, and we just continue to do it time and time again.”
Game 2 is scheduled for Friday at Madison Square Garden.
