Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin’s decision to call timeouts instead of knees against the Indianapolis Colts over the weekend has drawn the fury of NFL under bettors.

Former University of Utah hockey player Brock Roberts took to X to share what he called a “definite bad beat:”

Tomlin’s unusual decision came with the Steelers losing 27-13 and the game in its final stages. On first down with 1:41 on the clock, Colts quarterback Gardner Minshew and his teammates took the knee, which prompted Tomlin to use the first of his remaining three timeouts.

When the Steelers coach repeated his move after the Colts lined up in victory formation twice more, his opposing number Shane Steichen decided enough was enough.

The Colts coach directed his team to run another play, which led to Matt Gay landing a field goal in the game’s final minute to give Indy a 30-13 lead. The score would close the match-up on a combined total of 43 points, sending bettors who’d backed the game to finish on under 41.5 points apoplectic.

clownish on a game that’s already out of reach”

Brobible.com cited comments from some of the incensed bettors. One gambler stated Tomlin’s calls were “clownish on a game that’s already out of reach.” Another simply said: “I will forever dislike Tomlin for calling that timeout and forcing the over to hit.”
