Police identified Joevani Vale as the attacker after watching the video. During an hour-long spree on Saturday, he hit a woman in the face and slashed another with a knife before attacking the Cintron. The attacks all took place in the Boerum Hill area of Brooklyn. The 26-year-old suspect, who lived in the same public housing complex as the victim, is still at large.

Joevani Vale has at least three previous arrests, including one for slashing a random stranger in September 2020 in Brooklyn.

Cintron had only just been released from the hospital on Saturday morning when he went straight to his local corner deli and played the lotto. Cintron ended up winning, but it is still unclear how big of a prize it was. His wallet was missing after the attack that took place in an elevator just steps away from his front door.
