Brand’s first operation in the local market

William Hill US has signed a racebook deal with Casino Miami of Florida. The partnership marks the first time the sports betting brand will operate in the local market.

racebook facility is set to open before the end of 2019

The new racebook facility is set to open before the end of 2019, subject to regulatory approval.

The planned racebook facility

The William Hill US racebook at Casino Miami will install ten screens to allow fans to watch events. The space will additionally feature a 30-foot video wall. Plans for the racebook property also include high-top tables and 30 race carrels.

If William Hill and the casino receive approval to launch the proposed offering, the racebook will be home to pari-mutuel simulcast betting. Players will be able to watch as well as place wagers on major Thoroughbred, Harness, and Greyhound tracks, plus Jai Aai from around the US, pending regulatory approval in the state.

William Hill US chief executive Joe Asher sees Casino Miami as a great location. He said the property offers a modern space where the sports betting operator has created

a first-class experience for all racing fans in the area.”

The launch would additionally provide William Hill with a primed and ready spot in Florida if sports betting is legalized.

Casino Miami owner Phillip Ruffin said: “This new racebook will provide us with an incredible amenity for guests and will place us at the forefront of the forthcoming Florida sports betting business.”

Sports betting legislation in Florida

The announcement of the new racebook for Casino Miami comes at a time when a state senator has introduced new sports betting legislation.

According to VSO News, Senator Jeff Brandes filed three sports betting-related bills. The measures cover legalization of sports betting, licensing and fees, plus taxation and regulations.

The proposed bills would allow the industry to be organized by the state lottery and private license holders. If these get approval, operators will have the opportunity to offer services in retail locations as well as online.

In November 2018, Florida voters approved an amendment by which any law introducing sports betting must include a referendum vote. If a new bill regarding sports betting passes legislature, it will go on the November ballot in 2020 for consideration.
