A silent storm

Rumors are swirling that Tom Brady could unretire for a second time, and sportsbooks have provided odds on which team could be his next.

Brady, 45, stepped away from the game in February “for good,” in his words. However, NFL insider Rich Eisen revealed that there are rumblings around the league that the seven-time Super Bowl champion could end up back on the field again.

heard the Miami Dolphins as a potential landing spot

Eisen stressed that these were just rumors, but he heard the Miami Dolphins as a potential landing spot. The 2023 NFL season does not start for another six months, giving the old G.O.A.T. plenty of time to make his decision.

Rumors run wild

Eisen shared the Brady rumors during The Rich Eisen Show. He gathered the story while visiting the NFL combine, an annual showcase of prospects’ physical abilities and skills, last week.

“A couple people were just like, ‘Hang on, just you wait,’” said Eisen. “But it doesn’t look like he’s getting big and fat, does it? And just let it play out and see who wants what.”

Brady played the 2022 season after briefly retiring following a 30-27 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, who went on to win the Super Bowl, in the NFC Divisional Round. He led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to an 8-9 record and was ousted from the postseason in the Wild Card Round by the Dallas Cowboys and retired shortly after.

odds of +750 that Brady would unretire in 2022, giving an implied probability of 12%

FOX Bet offered hypothetical odds of +750 that Brady would unretire in 2022, giving an implied probability of 12%. Updated imaginary odds have not been provided this time around.

According to Eisen, the word on the street is that Brady is willing to step back into the spotlight to join the Dolphins in Miami. Reports have long suggested that he wanted to play the 2022 season in South Beach instead of with Tampa Bay, and if Tua Tagovailoa’s physical condition impedes the team’s short-term goals, they could bring in Brady as a mercenary for a one-year shot at the Super Bowl.

Tom Brady next team odds

Despite the water cooler talk from the combine, sportsbooks believe that Brady is most likely to be back with the Bucs (+200) if he comes out of retirement. The Las Vegas Raiders (+250) are a close second and have Brady’s former offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels, as their head coach, along with a few top-notch skill position players.

The NFC runners-up, the San Francisco 49ers (+350), are Brady’s third-most-likely destination in the eyes of the oddsmakers. Brady is from San Mateo, less than 30 minutes from San Francisco, and the Niners’ two top quarterbacks are battling serious injuries.

Fourth in the list of odds are the New England Patriots (+750), where Brady spent the first 20 years of his career. His relationship with coach Bill Belichick was rocky towards the end of their time together, but both have spoken fondly of each other since splitting up and miss the stability the other brought.

invested in 25-year-old Tagovailoa but have to prepare for the possibility that he will not play

The Dolphins are level with the Pats at +750 odds of landing Brady. They are invested in 25-year-old Tagovailoa but have to prepare for the possibility that he will not play every game in 2023 after battling multiple concussions in 2022.

Other possible landing spots for Brady include:

  • New York Giants (+900)
  • New York Jets (+900)
  • Tennessee Titans (+1500)
  • Seattle Seahawks (+1800)
  • Pittsburgh Steelers (+2000)
  • Washington Commanders (+2000)
  • Indianapolis Colts (+2500)
  • Carolina Panthers (+3000)
  • Baltimore Ravens (+4000)

All team odds are from DraftKings and from January 2023.
