Plans for the launch

The Fox Bet sportsbook is set to launch for the first time on September 3. There were rumors that the platform would be in beta testing mode in Pennsylvania on August 27. However, a member of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) said there are no plans for such a test in the next few days.

The launch comes just in time for the start of the NFL season on September 8, with the league always proving to be a lucrative source of revenue for sportsbooks.

NFL games are shown on Fox Sports, so it is inevitable that they will link up the latest odds from the Fox Bet sportsbook through their broadcasts. This will be the first time that an online sportsbook operator launches in Pennsylvania without a retail sportsbook already in operation.

Pennsylvania will be the first state to have Fox Bet on offer. The operator plans to expand into many other states in the future.

Solid partnership in place

In order to develop the Fox Bet sportsbook, the company tapped into the expertise at the Stars Group. It was in May 2019 that the Fox Corporation bought a 4.99% stake in the Stars Group for $236m. Fox has the option to up its stake to 50% in the coming decade if it wishes to do so.

The Stars Group already have an online sportsbook in operation in New Jersey. They are also getting ready to launch in Pennsylvania, operating the retail sportsbook at the Mount Airy Casino. Additionally, the group bought popular European bookmaker Sky Bet in 2018 for $4.7bn.

Equipped with the right talent and resources in relation to sports betting. the Stars Group are now working on the development of the Fox Bet platform.

Two sportsbook platforms

There will be two separate Fox Bet platforms on offer, one of which will be free to play. Cash prizes and vacations will be up for grabs for players who correctly predict the outcomes of certain games.

The operator will then use the free-to-play platform as a gateway for people to sign up to the traditional Fox Bet sportsbook.
