Everyone likes a good play on words. Or at least they should like a good play on words if they know how boring the majority if sentences actually are. Enter Isle of Bingo, then, an online bingo website which, at first glance, doesn’t seem like the cleverest in the pile. It doesn’t actually seem the like anything-est in the pile, in fact, given the homepage itself is rather sparse. Those who read our reviews regularly will already know this doesn’t bode well for the developers winning favour with folk in this office, but this is something we can come to in a little bit.
When the homepage first loads up, then, you’re confronted with a beautiful, dare-it-be-said Instagram-quality image of a desert island, surrounded by azure waters, densely packed with palm trees, and completed isolated by anything else- the horizon is empty. We are, it seems for all intents and purposes, completely on our own out here. Whether this means paradise probably depends on what you consider paradise to mean – the distinct lack of obvious food and fresh water sources would perhaps ring alarm bells in the minds of some.
There’s another side to this bingo website’s overall offering, though. Put simply, Isle of Bingo, when said quickly, sounds a lot like I Love Bingo. And this is almost definitely what the developers were going for when they names the domain. Clearly, the average game of bingo has very little to do with remote islands in tropical seas, and most people who play bingo really do love it. Yet, when it comes to great imagery that doesn’t make a website look cheap and tatty, the desert island definitely wins over pretty much anything we could think of that might invoke the phrase ‘I love bingo’.
Well, not quite unfortunately. As we already suggested, there’s a distinct lack of fresh water sources and food that you can see from the picture. These are all things we need to survive as people, and things we need to succeed in life. The problem is, if you translate this to the world of bingo, then the food and water sources are winnings, and as such we might read into this imagery that the winnings on Isle of Bingo are a little, err, scarce.
The information is certainly not that forthcoming, and this is when things begin to get a bit irritating by all accounts. Of course, there’s the big statement about spending £5 and receiving 300% more to spend (so that’s £20, for those of you who are not too up on the maths) – an offer only applicable to spends of £5 maximum, and only available to completely new members. However, this aside the majority if the website homepage is pretty much void of any real information.
This is bad for several reasons. For starters, although we can imagine there’s a lot of bingo going on when you scratch the surface, it’s not clear exactly what type of bingo there is on offer. Moreover, it’s not particularly revealing on where abouts you might find the details of what kind of bingo is offered within the rest of the website. Put simply, it’s just not that clear and while we quite enjoy exploring things for ourselves, we are certainly not the average internet user who has about two seconds of patience whenever a new URL loads up.
OK, so this isn’t a lounge at all, but rather a table listing out the most recent winners. Sadly this is where they developers might have put their thinking caps on and decided to rank winners in the order of the bingo game they actually won, or at least included some sort of reference to the type of game they were playing. Neither opportunity has been seized upon, and this means we’re still in the dark.
That said, there is a rather eye-catching figure at the top of the page – Yesterday’s Total Winnings (albeit without the apostrophe on Yesterday). When we tested the site this was at £1,158,961.76, which is quite a significant figure by anyone’s standards, and as such is tempting when it comes to luring you in to get involved.
The top row of the menu (where you will also find the aforementioned ‘Winners’ tab) has a ‘Blog’ section, which if you click on will take you to a Blog that is dedicated to the site. Sadly, this is not poetic prose detailing how passionate people are about their bingo. Nor is is a funny memoir of the most ridiculous bingo stories you’ve never heard of.
Instead, it’s basically a string of pretty poorly formatted blog posts pertaining to new deals, offers, things you may not know about, and new bingo room openings. Tellingly, the last update was made on April 11, 2015, which would suggest this area of the site is now pretty much unused, and as such you have to question what the point is. The posts themselves have no appealing qualities such as thumbnail images and the like – and as such we’d be amazed if anyone bothered to click.
Well, all things are not all that bad once you get to the promotions area. Like many bingo sites, Isle Of Bingo is keen to make sure people want to keep coming back, and with that in mind the developers have come up with a great list of ongoing promotions that range from Refer A Friend bonuses to Penny Bingo games taking place daily from 6pm onwards.
On top of all that, Isle of Bingo is part of the xCite Loyalty scheme, which basically means the more you play the further up the rankings you’ll go and the better offer you will get. The Loyalty rankings come in at Rookie, Pro, Master, and finally Champ. It’s worth checking out this section of the site yourself as the stuff you can redeem comes in all shapes and sizes, and all values, so really far too much to include here but all good nonetheless.

Despite ending on a high, to paraphrase the title of a well-known Hollywood film, we’re just not that into Isle of Bingo. Yes, we love the name of it, thanks to its play on words approach. And we also love that opening image of the desert island. Aside from that, though, there’s not much here to love because there’s just not actually that much here to reference.
The promotions, offers, and grand total winnings are all very tasty, to use the slang, but by all accounts you need to be a member to even see what it is you might stand a chance of actually winning on. Given the majority of people who would be interested in signing up also have abundant other options for bingo websites they could sign up for, many of which actually do provide the full information, this is pretty much one of the biggest issues we could imagine in terms of putting people off actually taking the requisite steps.
On the whole, this is very much a book being judged by its cover, but that’s exactly the point we’re trying to make- people don’t want to have to even think that much about what bingo site they are signing up for, they just want to sign up. Overall, then, this is a fail.
