Bewitched Slot
Whether you know the characters and plots from the 1960’s hit TV show or the interesting but doomed 2005 Bewitched remake with Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell, the theme of this IGT video slot will no doubt be familiar to almost anyone who has ever had to watch daytime TV repeats. This isn’t the first time IGT have released a TV based slot, nor is it the first from a 60’s backdrop, The Beverly Hillbillies slot is one of their most famous such titles and ties in well as a natural partner with their licensed movie themed range.
On the face of it the Bewitched slot is simply a 5x3 reel video slot with the popular 1024 ways to win structure, look deeper however and this official game has a few magical tricks to be pulled out of Samantha’s hat. These include an accumulated win multiplier system and a free spins bonus round which add to the classic 60’s action. Will this slot put a spell on you or will you be bewitched by a more mainstream offering?
Theme
You will find some but not all of your favourite characters on the reels, Samantha, Serena, a witches brew and a broom also appear in the games bonus spins round as the four levels of progressive jackpot on offer – none are huge in value, but they are substantially more rewarding than the normal reel game wins and you will hope to be dropping one of them to make the experience truly magical.
The cabinet and reel structure are retro 60’s style and tie in with the fonts and characters from the TV series as do the low pay symbols which are the classic 10 – Ace Icons. Other symbols include a classic 60’s TV set, a black witch’s cat and of course the famed black pointy hat! Samantha herself will appear as an animated character just like in the original TV show, twinkling her nose when multipliers are awarded.
The music and sound effects are borrowed from the original series and jazzed up a little, you will also find the occasional video cut scene which is a nice touch though it is far from the immersive experience offered by some of IGT’s better known movie slots such as the ground breaking Avatar or Top Gun slot for instance.
Features
Bewitched features the game logo as a standard wild, this substitutes for all other symbols except for the bonus triggering scatters. Unlike many games, the wild isn’t massively useful during normal gameplay and doesn’t feature at all on the spins round as that takes place on a separate wheel above the main cabinet screen.
The first of the two bonus games is the spells win multiplier, each spell book which appears on the reels adds a multiplier to a ladder storage at the right of the screen, each spin the multiplier drops down one position before dropping off the bottom. This means that not only do multipliers stored last for four spins but that they also accumulate leaving some big win combinations possible.
A second bonus game exists called the book of spells wheel bonus, two spell books and a bonus book symbol initiate the spinning wheel at the top of the game cabinet, whichever multiplier you have accumulated at the time will affect the outcome if you spin in credits rather than one of the games progressive rewards.
Summary
Bewitched is a playful and fun slot, fans of the original show will love this TV style slot for sure though it is missing a few of the series characters. Whether it has enough mainstream appeal is up for debate, the lack of big reel wins or interactive bonus rounds may hurt this slot once the novelty factor is exhausted.
