Since Mike Myers originally launched the Austin Powers film franchise in 1997, the whole world has become in-tune with the groovy atmosphere that the comedy spy films have imparted on the world. All of the films have proven to be extremely popular, grossing more than $676 million in box office tickets, with additional millions being brought in through DVD and merchandise sales.
WMS Gaming has obtained the rights to develop and distribute video slots on the Austin Powers franchise, but it should be noted that the group is not the first to offer the games as IGT released a similar game back in 2012. Originally revealed at the G2E Expo in September 2014, the Austin Powers game is a new Las Vegas slot that is fresh looking that incorporates WMS' new video display screens into the action.
The game itself is not focused on any one film, instead bringing all three of the blockbuster films into the fold. The slot has five reels and thirty paylines, as well as crisp HD graphics with reel symbols that include Austin Powers, Doctor Evil, Frau Farbissina, Scott Evil, Number 2, and more. There are also a wide array of bonus features included in the game, which include the Fembot Bonus, Fat Bastard Bonus Wheel, a Gear Packing Round, Free Spins, Win Multipliers, as well as a top wheel that can award one of two progressive jackpots tied in with the game (either Austin Powers or Dr. Evil, appropriately).
All of the game's bonus features are made available when three or more Austin Powers Bonus symbols are unveiled on the reels, kicking over to a Mini Me Wheel, which sends players over to the various extra rounds of the game. These games are accompanied by a short video sequence that somehow manages to capture the funniest bits of the movie trilogy.
The Gear Packing Round sees players spinning a mini-wheel to unveil certain pieces of equipment used to raid Dr. Evil's Volcano Lair, earning players big prizes in the process. The Fembot Round has double reels, awarding a win and a multiplier that will allow punters to take home big money. The Fat Bastard Bonus is a slow moving wheel that also awards mega sized wins, and the Austin Powers or Dr. Evil Bonus allows you the opportunity to take home one of the game's jackpots.
The game's cabinet is beautiful, with the title being composed of two separate flat screen LCD TVs, the bottom of which is a touch screen that operates the games controls. Furthermore, the game's action is stretched vertically on the bottom screen, which makes it stand out as being completely different from many of the other games that you will find at a brick and mortar casino.
A firm release date for Austin Powers has not been revealed by WMS, but the slot is likely due out sometime in late 2014 or early 2015. The game is definitely one that movie buffs should keep an eye on, as it is one of the most graphically and video intensive slots that we have seen in recent times.
