Double Flash Slot Machine

Just when you thought there couldn’t be many more classic slots to the Tom Horn brand and up pops a find like Double Flash, a 3-reel slot that promises an old school trip back in time. The grid is very basic, as are the graphics used, but it suits the action of the game perfectly – this is a filler title and it makes no qualms about that fact.

Players are going to meet up with some dear old friends, from the sliced watermelon to the cest of the orange, but wait because there’s more. There’s the bronze bell and the cheeky joker, joined by a blue star acting as the scatter – it’s not the gang you was expecting, but you know most if not all of them.

Now despite being a retro title, there’s actually a bonus game to be unlocked whilst you play, triggered by the bell, and so it isn’t an easily confined slot machine to the conventions of its genre. It challenges the criticisms that often dog classic slots, while adhering to the majority of its ironclad rules. Basically, it’s like that complicated person in your uni or in work that you can’t help but have a crush on, despite them being even more unsure of themselves than you are.

Criss Cross

As we were just talking about the bell, we’ll get into the dynamics of its bonus level for it’s quite a lot to get your head around. It sounds like it should be straightforward: unlock the special level, pick the bell, yada yada yada, but then it gets complex and we start to drift off into our own world.

Returning to when you select the bell of your choice, whichever of the three you choose will essentially transform into two different fruits, with you having to decide which of the two you would like. Okay, so a double dose of pick a prize.

When you’ve got the fruit you want you will see it appear on the reels for the next 10 spins, which have been handed to you for free. Not only will these symbols appear on the regular grid, but also on a smaller one beside the other. When the spins are over, the winlines with the unique fruit will be added to the normal ones and a payout will be made.

Thank Your Blue Stars

Move over lucky stars, we’re all about the blue stars in this game of Double Flash. That’s because over three of the symbols will cause a chain reaction of free spins, with you having to determine whether they’re defined or randomly selected. Just as you did with the bell, users will have to decide between three stars, one of which is clearly marked with the number of free goes you’ll have. The other two are steeped in mystery, and so you won’t know if you’ll receive more or less until you choose one of them.

Double Ya Bets

You don’t have to double your bets, but if you do you’ll feel an instant reaction and we’re not talking about regret; Double Flash gives you more money for the more cash you bet. To see what you can hope to win back, click through the betting range while the payout table is open, that way you’ll see the sums increase as your stake does. The most you can bet is 25 credits.

The Autoplay button gives both a specific number of rounds and an auto feature, meaning you can either restrict how long the game plays without you, or let it keep going until you or it says otherwise. Whether you keep the option going is entirely up to you, as the autospins can be ended if and when the need should arise.

Once you’ve figured out how you want to proceed, all that there’s left to do is either spin yourself or sit and watch the grid roll for you. It’s so simple it's childsplay (not that we recommend children playing these slots. Bad, very bad, idea).

Double the Fun?

Double Flash is enjoyable and that’s all there is to it. There’s no need to harp on about what it lacks or what it doesn’t as classic games aren’t designed with frills and extras in mind, so the fact that there’s two bonuses is a big deal. The game would have been more honest to its roots without the bell bonus round, but it was fun when it triggered and so we can’t complain too much.
