The Arcader slot is a modern take on a retro looking theme which can only be described as a mix of the traditional fruit machine and an old style Space Invaders mixed into one. This all may sound a little outdated, but this is a very original and modern take on both of those ideas, this slot being one of the most unique and enjoyable I have come across recently.
This game, by software house Thunderkick, is set against the backdrop of a planet scene, with meteors falling slowly through the dark sky and planets drifting in and out of view. The reels of the slot shoot out of the ground of the planet, standing proudly in the middle of the screen. Each reel is made up of a huge number of small pixels and these pixels change colour to show the symbols, each symbol being a bright splash of colour. The symbols are those seen traditionally on classic slots such as the cherry, the bell and the sevens, although you’ll never have seen them pixelated like this before. The accompanying sound at the slot is excellent, a retro electronic soundtrack plays all the time and a female, slightly robotic voice welcomes each win.
This slot has two distinct features – the bonus game where you’ll receive free spins and wilds with a difference and the mystery bonus round.
Although looking nothing like a traditional slot, this is actually a standard five reel game, this one featuring 15 win lines. Unlike some other slots, these wins are not changeable, so you’ll play the entire 15. When choosing your cost for each spin, you’ll pick a total stake as opposed to the cost per win line.
To win at this slot you’ll need at least 3 symbols in a row consecutively on a win line from left to right (starting with the leftmost reel). The top paying symbol in the game is the BAR which gives you a win of 20x your total stake when landing 5 in a row. The red seven is next, winning you 9x your total stake. The standard symbols are completed by the bell, the melon, the lemon, the plum, the orange and the cherry.
There are a number of other symbols at the slot. The first is a wild, which is represented by the W symbol on a blue background. This acts as a standard wild and will simply substitute for any other symbol to increase your chances of winning. Similar to the wild is the Expander which when appearing will turn a whole reel into the symbol which is most profitable – this symbol represented by an up and down arrow.
The last symbol seen in the main game is the M, which is another scatter symbol. Once again, land three across any of the reels and you’ll enter the mystery bonus round.
The bonus free games round is one with a difference. At the start you’ll be given 9 free spins with a multiplier. The size of the multiplier is dependent upon the number of times you land the scatter symbol to activate the feature. You’ll have the standard 1x multiplier if the scatter symbol landed three times, a 3x multiplier if landing 4 times and a 9x multiplier if landing on every reel. After each spin in this round one of the symbols on reels 2, 3 or 4 will be turned into a W symbol (this time with a green background). This is a sticky wild and will remain in place throughout the whole round. This meaning that the end of the round is potentially very profitable due to all of the extra wilds in place.
The mystery game once again sees you gain a larger multiplier the more symbols are landed (this time 2x for four and 6x for five). Here you’ll pick from a grid full of squares, each showing a question mark. Every time you pick a fruit you’ll win a prize but hit the red X and the round is over.
It is hard to find anything negative to say about this slot. It looks fantastic, the features are plentiful and there is enough to keep you interested for a long time. The only possible downside is the fact that there isn’t a big jackpot win available, but even this has its advantages, as you’ll win the smaller prizes more often. This is a must play slot.
