Tropicana Slot

The word ‘tropicana’ brings a lot of ideas and images rushes to the fore, normally of sun kissed beaches and brightly decorated shirts. What it doesn’t do is make you think of under the sea, and yet that is the theme Spigo have gone with in their 40-payline slot machine, Tropicana.

There are some tropical fish lurking about, but not enough to justify the name, in fact there are more treasure chests and mermaids knocking about. Unusual titles aside, the game is actually a full and varied one, with a low volatility readout, meaning you won’t lose your mind while you play. Always an added bonus.

Splish Splash

Diving down into the depths is how you’re going to come across this little underwater grotto, filled with an eclectic mix of fishes, treasure, and gods. Poseidon has got in on the action, and he looks quite fierce sat upon that scatter tile.

All of the symbols are interactive, which adds a nice touch to the feel of the game; when you click upon them their values per match will appear, but they will also do an action. For example, the closed treasure chest opens up, and the squid inks itself. It’s darling and cute. So be warned, if you’re opposed to anything adorable as this, this title may not be right for you as it’s filled with that kitsch quality.

In the background is the huge blue void that is the ocean, with a few fishes swimming by and minding their own business. It’s a subtle setting, but it works very well, especially given the vivid nature of the symbols. Nothing overpowers here, which is refreshing as video slots have become a powerhouse for fancy decorations.

Inside the Hidden Grove

We’ve already mentioned Poseidon, but it’s important we return to him as this particular symbol will pay no matter where it lands. All you need is three of them and boom, money in the bank. What is more, he can alsotrigger up to 50 free spins, which is a plentiful amount to be gifted, so make sure you keep in his good books and keep finding five of him.

That stunning blonde mermaid is also very giving for she is the wild here - she takes away unnecessary tiles, and should three of her land on a winning line, she will reward you a decent payout of 6 credits. This doesn’t sound much at all, but as the game appears to be quite giving in terms of success, you’ll probably be getting a lot of cash.

4 for 1

Spigo may downplay their graphics when compared to other brands, but they definitely don’t skimp on the features; as well as the free spins, there are three bonus rounds to access. These are the Pearl Diver, Clownfish, and Seahorse bonus rounds, each of them is very different from the other, which helps to keep Tropicana fresh and innovative with every playthrough.

  • Pearl Diver: This one is odd because the clams enjoy playing Yahtzee, and so you have to guess the combinations they’re hiding inside themselves to win the money. Quirky doesn’t quite cover it, but you can’t say it isn’t original!
  • Clownfish: A little clownfish needs to navigate this maze from beginning to end, collecting coins as he goes; your dice control the number of spaces he moves, but there are electric eels in the way. Get the right numbers to avoid danger.
  • Seahorses: As for this round, it’s a racing game, and you need only choose who will succeed: the dolphin, turtle or seahorse. Don’t always go for the most obvious because while it’s more likely to win, the payouts are much lower.

Navigation

The controls with Spigo are ridiculously simple, meaning you don’t get caught scratching your head before you’ve even begun!

Your bet per line can be as low as 0.01 or it can climb up to 0.10, neither of which are particularly alarming amounts, even across 40 paylines. At the most you’ll be playing with 4 credits, which is great for a maximum bet. Should you feel that you want to start off slow, with limited paylines, you can click through the amounts until you find whatever suits you.

A Place of Dreams

Tropicana is a surprising title, and one we will definitely be revisiting in the near future. It’s just too unique to say no to, even despite it looking quite basic. This is a game where you have to peek beneath the surface to get the most benefits.
