Indiana Jane Slot Machine

When you consider the decade’s long popularity of the Indiana Jones movie series, starring the legendary Harrison Ford, and the potential for spin-offs, it is actually a complete wonder that the theme of Indiana Jane, until now, has been confined to some cosplay enthusiasts creations.

RTG clearly thought something needed to be done, and so, this imaginary female heroine takes to the 5 spinning reels of a new online adventure themed video slot with the title; Indiana Jane and the Golden Tomb of Katun.

If you have always imagined taking Indy’s great treasure quests to a new level as this character, complete with studious assistant, you have the potential to find all you seek on theprogressive jackpot game, available as both a flash title with no download requiredand as part of full casino software for desktop play.

Theme

Jane herself, perhaps by no accident, is very reminiscent of the movie icon most people feel already fulfil this role, Lara Croft or tomb-raider fame. That said right from the start you do get a feel that this slot is running parallel to the famed Jones movie series, even the character outfits feel of the period and setting.

The music and sound effects are decent if uninspiring, you can always turn them off in the game settings menu if they get too much but they aren’t overly intrusive or irritating even after a period of extended play. The theme is pretty congruous, with the reels sitting like a temple framed by columns atop ancient stone steps. A reel frame of jungle vines and foliage adds to the authenticity and ties everything in. The only place the theme steps out a little is in the game name, Katun feels Egyptian to us, but the icons and temple seem to have more of an Aztec game themeto them.

Somewhat disappointingly, and a hallmark of RTG games, is that the low pay symbols are simple playing card icons, and I do mean simple, no attempt here to jazz them up or include them in the style, tone or theme of the game. The higher pay-out symbols are much better, there is Jane herself, her assistant, an explorers map with tools, and various other archaeological adventure theme bits and bobs.

Features

Game mechanics, as with most RTG titles are pretty simple, 5 reels, 3 rows, a choice of 1-25 active pay-lines and a coin value of 0.01 to 5.00 credits give you a max bet of up to 125.00 credits and the biggest single win available for five of a kind on the reels at any one time is a decent 2500 coins. You have an included pay-table which will show you all symbol rounds, pay-line combinations and game functions at a single click.

No wild explorer’s adventure game could be complete with the inclusion of some wild symbols, and Indiana Jane is no exception, the wilds in fact, are one of the best features. Whilst it may not pay anything out on its own, the games logo as a wild will substitute for all symbols and grant you a 2x win multiplier to boot, which keeps the base gameplay from getting stale.

Pick up three of the tomb scatters and you get a double pick win bonus game, scratchcard or instant win style, which can get pretty hair raising. When three scatters land you first need to pick one of the scatters out to determine how many picks you will get in the bonus round, you are then transported to the Tomb Spheres bonus round where you can use these choices wisely or not as the case may be. Unusually for a pick win round what is granted is free spins and multipliers, with Jane herself adding you three free and a multiplier of x2 to set you off on your spins quest.

What keeps this game in an anticipating state of excitement throughout, just like stumbling onto buried treasure in a real exploration, is the fact that the games progressive jackpot is completely random, and could theoretically, land at the end of any spin in either the base game or the bonus round.

Summary

RTG still have a little catching up to do with their animations and graphics, though, they are decent if uninspired on this title so it isn’t a massive criticism. What it lacks in flash, it does make up for in gameplay and theme, it’s fun, on tone and has the possibility to offer massive cash prizes at any moment.
