Totem Lightning Slots

It’s time to go all American Indian – or Red Indian as we used to refer to them as kids, while playing games of cowboys and indians – in Red Tiger Gaming’s Totem Lightning. In this slick and highly entertaining game, it’s possible to win serious amounts of credits without moving a muscle. One lucky spin and you can sit back and watch as the game does all the hard work for you. Although this slot doesn’t technically spin it should be noted: instead the symbols appear as tiles that cascade onto the reels.

Build For Victory

Totem Lighting is a 40 payline, 5-reel slot, one which has a line stake that can be set between 0.20 and 500. There’s plenty of scope then for adjusting this slot to suit your playing style and bankroll. In demo mode, this slot was cranked up to its maximum bet setting of 500, whereupon it recorded a win of over 3,500 on the very first go. This was achieved with the aid of the bonus symbol. After each win, the tiles in question are replaced with new ones, while the lower value playing card symbols are struck out of the game, maximising the size of your next win. In this way, it’s relatively easy to notch up multiple wins of increasing size.

Autoplay can be set as high as 5 million or 100 spins. If you’re playing this game with the maximum bet settings enabled, you’ll probably want to do so manually, not least so you can savour the dopamine rush that comes from watching as the winning tiles are replaced by new ones and your winnings start to stack up.

Lightning Strikes Twice

We’ve covered the ‘totem’ part of this slot’s title, but what about the lightning element? That comes courtesy of the lightning bolt that’s shot from the sky, blasting away low paying symbols and leaving only the higher value symbols that should ensure your next win is a big one. The symbols that have been removed from the equation will be displayed in the bar to the right of the reels.

It’s possible in Totem Lightning to win 800x your stake or, if you make it all the way to the top, a nice 1,000x. This occurs after landing three or more bonus symbols in view. In the base game, the playing card symbols are worth precious little, but the animal totem symbols fetch a little bit more. They’re nicely designed, comprising a red crab, green mammal of some sort, a purple cat and a blue eagle. Their values range between 120 and 888 for 5 on a line with the maximum bet set.

Lightning Strikes Twice

Totem Lightning is a medium to high volatility slot, one with an RTP of 95.53%. The closest games to this include Fortune Jump by Playtech. That one also has 40 paylines but reels that spin instead of cascade. Three bonus symbols in view trigger the feature and, just like Totem Lightning, it doesn’t dispense free spins. Wonderland by Gamesys works in a similar fashion, doling out four tiers of jackpot in a 100 payline game that’s devoid of free spins.

A couple more slots that operate in the same way as Totem Lightning, even if their themes are far removed from the RTG slot: Ultra Sevens by Novomatic, which is a simple fruit machine, and Spin 2 Millions by Playtech, which has just 5 paylines to its name. There are quite a few Totem-named games on the market incidentally including Totem Jungle by Gaming1 which is an extremely odd little game and one that’s hard to find.

A Bolt from the Blue

Despite its absence of free spins, expanding wilds, a secondary bonus game or any other kind of feature, Totem Lightning is nevertheless an entertaining slot to play. That’s thanks to the cascading reels and the lightning strike effect that bolsters your wins and makes it possible to win major sums without doing anything other than pushing the spin button.

This isn’t the sort of slot you could play for great lengths of time, and with the maximum bet settings enabled you probably couldn’t afford to either. Still, the totem pole theme has been implemented well here, making for an American Indian game that’s as clever as it is colourful.
