I’m always a little sceptical when a slot announces that it will be crazy. Will it try too hard? Maybe repeat the same old jokes? Fortunately, Crazy Cows, by Play N Go, manages to pull this off very well. It is light, humorous and expertly produced. If you are looking for entertainment, there are some high-diving cows and an extremely vain bull to keep you entertained.
Bluegrass music has been used very effectively for this game. The overall craziness has been improved no end by the music getting faster and slower at different times. This is switched to some deeper and more soul type music during the bull expanding wild feature.
Overall the graphics are cartoon like and fun, with cows, the letters from the word ‘Crazy’ and a hat-wearing dog making up the symbols. The expanding bull wild is done really well; he shows his muscles while posting as the fully wild middle reel.
There are two special features in this game. First the expanding bull offers 5 free spins, and then there is a separate bonus game in which high-diving cows show how many spins you’ll get for a longer round. My experience was that you get plenty of smaller wins to keep you playing while waiting for the bonuses to trigger.
As with most Play N Go slots, this game has 15 win-lines. You can choose how many to play, and also select the number of coins to play per line (from 1 to 5). Coin values range from 1c to 25c, which gives the 15c to $18.75c range for the spins with max lines and coins per line. You can auto-spin and gamble your wins on the flip of a playing card if you wish.
You’ll want to see as much of the bull as possible in this game. This is the wild symbol (as usual, substituting for the regular symbols, though not the specials), and pays 2500 coins for 5 on a line. Next in value come the female cows, worth 750, 500 and 250 for 5. The corn and letters making up ‘crazy’ complete the smaller wins.
The bull expands to cover all 3 rows if he lands on the middle reel. If there are also 2 halves of a heart medallion either side, then the 5 instant free spins are triggered.
There is a scatter in play, which is the dog in the hat. 5 of these will win you 50 times your total bet. This symbol also has the role of adding spins (in the bull round) and multiplier (in the high diving cows free spins). The final symbol is the farmhouse / bonus; this triggers the cows free spins with 3 or more.
I already covered the bull mini free spins round. This is just 5 spins, though you can get more with 2 of the scatters (dogs) during play. The 2 hearts + bull on the middle reel triggers it. This round was fairly frequent when I played, and added some nice mid-sized wins.
The main bonus needs 3 bonus symbols. This starts with a very comical pick-em round. You choose from one of the 3 cows, which then performs a high dive in front of the farmhouse. This reveals the number of free spins you’ll get. You then play the round, starting with a 2x multiplier for your wins. If you hit 2 or more scatters, your multiplier increases up to a max of 5x. You can also retrigger up to a max of 50 free spins by hitting 3 more farmhouses.
A great slot and one which I recommend you take for a spin. This game is over the top and comical, without being jarring or ‘too much’. While the visual elements are great, it is the speeding up and slowing down of the slide guitar and banjo music which really gives you that surreal feeling.
The bonus round is amusing enough, though the high-diving cows is really only minimally interactive (you pick a cow). You’ll have the posing bull mini free spins round more frequently, which adds some interest to the main game. Check out Crazy Cows for yourself for a great introduction to that Play N Go are capable of producing.
