Fish'n Derby Slots

Nothing beats a day in the great outdoors trying to catch a fish or two in a wild river. Nothing perhaps except a virtual trip to the best fishing spots with some high stakes and no need to change your clothes.

If you favour the second option, then you might be interested in knowing more about Fish’n Derby, a video slot game developed by Omega Gaming for sports fans and amateurs of classic slot games alike.

Forget about big graphics and fancy animations here, Fish’n Derby is all about old-school graphics and real casino flavour. With a high volatility and few options to choose from, the game can be as challenging as actual fishing. It might take you a while until you catch a big fish here, but Fish’n Derby still a few features that could make it worth a try. Let’s have a look at all this in our full review of the game.

Gone Fishin’

As promised, Fish’n Derby is a very old-school slot game indeed. Nothing to do with the most modern Omega Gaming creations here, instead players will get the total casino experience without having to leave their home.

With a realistic sound atmosphere mimicking the chatter of an actual casino, Fish’n Derby is simply a big and rectangular slot machine with the paytable on top and large command buttons at the bottom. Nothing too impressive visually speaking, but fans of old-school casinos will feel right at home here.

Get Ready for a Long Wait

Playing Fish’n Derby is as simple as you might imagine. The game is based on just 3 reels and contains only one horizontal payline. Bet 1, 2 or 3 coins per turn and set up the coin value with the plus and minus buttons available. You can bet up to 9 credits on the reels in total, and the bet max button will help you jump ahead to go all-in in just one click. Use the autoplay shortcut to place the same wager several times in a row and speed up the game a little in the process.

Overall, Fish’n Derby has a quite high volatility that makes scoring big wins a little challenging. Even smaller payouts can be tough to get, given that the reels can stop on the payline “in between” two symbols as well. This specific feature is common in land-based casinos, and it does add one extra hurdle for the players.

As mentioned before, the paytable of Fish’n Derby is actually displayed right on top of the reels at all times. It contains fishing floaters, bar signs, golden 7s, hooks and baits for a maximum reward of x2400, which is quite impressive for such a small and simple game. Except for the fact that the floaters can trigger different cash prizes even with combinations of 2, or on their own, Fish’n Derby does not have any kind of special feature to offer players at all.

Easy to Customise, but that Does Not Make the Fish Any Harder to Get

If one word could summarise Fish’n Derby, it could very well be “challenging”. The rules are simple and any player should be able to get started on the reels right away, but winning is another story. The high variance, short paytable and not-so-generous paytable over all really made our job difficult.

Fish’n Derby is, therefore, best put in the hands of high-rollers who are not afraid of taking some big risks spin after spin.

Beginners should probably stay away and try a different slot game like Alaskan Fishing, a 243-way slot from Microgaming with medium variance and an RTP of 96.63% that makes it much more user-friendly, after all.
