The King’s Crown Slots

In recent years Novomatic have cranked out many great slots with plenty of unique and exciting features (the famous Book of Ra 6 comes to mind with its optional sixth reel and Expanding Scatter in the free spins feature) however,it looks like they’ve gone back to basics in the gameplay of their The King’s Crown slot. It may not have any glamorous bonus features or free spins but it has two Wild symbols along with some interesting Scatter-Wild action attached to one of them. So, who by birthright should be crowned the ruler of the reels? The medieval themed slot is playable for free or for real money across desktop, mobile and tablet devices.

Theme & Icons

The cartoon-like video slot takes us back to the Middle Ages, during a time of princes, princesses, and court jesters; the background is their medieval castle set atop a hill. One of the symbols on the reels is, of course, the prince who must be the next in line for the throne as he is a high paying symbol worth 1000x your total bet if you land five of his kind in a winning combination. His princess and most probable successor to the throne is another high-value icon worth 500x your total stake if she makes five appearances on a singlewin-lineafter a successful spin.An eagle and a dove also grace the reels of this slot along with some low-value playing card symbols 10, J, Q, K, A which are cleverly designed in jester fashion. Leaving, by Royal decree, the court jester as the game’s Wild which substitutesfor all symbols except that of the crown. He is the highest paying symbol, five of which gives you 2000x your total bet. The Wild is the only icon that pays on 2, 3, 4, 5-of-a-kind, the rest start paying out on 3, 4 and 5 matching icons. Despite this, the online slot is all about its majestic crown Scatter-Wild.Visually, the game looks good but the graphics are nothing special. I also recommend putting the slot on mute as the soundtrack is Novomatic’s standard chime.

Gameplay & Features

The medium volatilityonline slot has a 5x3 reel layout with 10 fixed pay-lines. The minimum total bet is 10 credits and the maximum is 100 credits per spin. As with other Novomatic slots, it takes a while for the big wins to happen so it’s better to budget your bankroll. In fact, RTP (how much the slot gives back) is just 95.04%.

This no-frills slot has a noble function which in the long run can prove to be quite opulent. This is the crown Scatter-Wild which like the jester also substitutes for all symbols, however, it can only appear on reel 3. When the crown takes its place on the reels, it randomly chooses one to three matching symbols and crowns them. Any icon apart from the royal jester can become a crowned symbol. The feature can be quite lucrative if either of the high-value symbols like the prince or princess are crowned.

As with all of Novomatic’s slots, the gamble button is a feature which comes into play after every win. It gives you the chance to double your gold or lose it all just by guessing the colour (red or black) of the playing card behind the crown symbol. Your prize will double after each correct guess until you click ‘Collect’ or you until you lose it all.

Summary

The King’s Crown is a pretty slot with some average graphics and an unexciting sound palette. Keeping in mind that this one of Novomatic’s most current slots, I am not impressed. There are some bigger and better games by the same software provider like the epic Kingdom of Legend which I believe is a step in the right direction for the company. The fact that there isn’t a bonus feature with free spins included isn’t going to please a lot of players but its two Wilds and Scatter-Wild function is something different which can prove to be quite profitable if a high-value symbol becomes crowned. Other than that, it’s a pretty basic video slot.
