Pixie Gold is a slot machine by Lightning Box which has a whole load of action going on with every spin. There may technically only be 5 reels in the game but the game screen shows 8 different columns thanks to a unique Reelfecta element. As such, there are up to 1,296 different ways to win a prize when you spin the enchanted reels of this fairyland game, not to mention plentiful extra gameplay features such as “Pixie Spin”, “Wild Pixie” and a gamble game.
If you like video slots with big themes, then this slot machine will be right up your alley. That is because Pixie Gold promises loads of bewitching action due to its fairytale forest theme in which the titular pixie character dwells in her toadstool house alongside her little critter neighbours, a snail and a yellow ladybird. Other symbols in the game include a regal king character icon, an acorn symbol and a magical staff with a knapsack – all the right props and characters necessary for an enchanted woodland adventure.
In truth, this game has a lot going on when it comes to the visual aesthetic. Almost too much. With 8 different columns filled with so many contrasting colours and designs, this slot could easily be a bit overbearing on the eyes. Plus, depending on your own personal tastes, it could be easy to see this game as a bit gaudy and tacky on the design front, especially when the 3D animated pixie character appears more like the victim of bad plastic surgery than a naturally beautiful forest dweller.
One of the main reasons why this game is so visually busy is the fact that it shows a grand total of 8 columns instead of the traditional 5 reels that most video slots display. However, this game is still technically a 5-reel slot, only that its third and middle reel is what Lightning Box like to call a “Reelfecta” reel. That means that it is presented as a 4x4 grid of 16 individual icons rather than simply showing three vertically aligned reel positions like the other four reels of the game.
What's more, Pixie Gold doesn't have any specifically outlined paylines. Instead, winning combinations can be achieved by finding matching symbols on consecutive reels which is why there are 1,296 different possible ways to bag a prize. So, you could find the same symbol on the first two reels and another matching symbol anywhere in the central 4x4 grid to land a 3-of-a-kind win. If two of the same paying symbols appear in the Reelfecta reel, then two wins will be awarded, and so on.
The wagering options of this game start from as little as 0.01 and go up to a maximum stake per line of 2 credits. However, since there are no physical paylines involved, all line bets are multiplied by a nominal value of 50 to calculate the total bet for each spin. Below you can see the line bet multipliers that are awarded for each winning combination:
Those wins may not appear to be the biggest in the business but bear in mind that this game offers plenty of winning opportunities with every spin. However, if you're not satisfied with your winning total then you can always gamble it for double or quadruple the value with this game's gamble feature.
Big wins are also a possibility with the Pixie Spin bonus round with a Wild Pixie feature. This side game is triggered whenever the King Star icon appears in the column directly above the cart being dragged along the bottom of the game screen by a mouse. When this happens, a random lucky symbol will be chosen to be added to the Reelfecta reel and a Wild Pixie icon will be placed over all 3 reel positions of the second reel. In effect, this lucky symbol will be more likely to appear during the Pixie Spin, meaning that spinners will be more likely to land some big wins.
With 5-reels, 8 spinning column, 1,296 ways to win, and a jam-packed game screen filled with a mixture of 2D and 3D animations, it is safe to say that there is a lot of action available when you spin this Pixie Gold slot machine. To some players, all of this might just be too much and it would be easy to dismiss this slot machine as being too complicated for its own good. However, the creators of this game do deserve some praise for trying something different and, even if it doesn't quite work on a purely visual level, this game is still very exciting to play.
