Thunderbird Spirit Slots

There are a lot of casino software developers out there that opt to air on the side of what’s safe, with Genesis Gaming certainly being one of them. If you are a big time name in the industry, there isn’t too much wrong with that, but considering that Genesis Gaming has yet to break through the glass ceiling with what it has to offer, a call for change is clear. Making the decision to step outside of its comfort zone, the brand has created a new game in the mysterious looking Thunderbird Spirit.

What’s clear is that there is a certain Native American vibe to this real money slots game, what isn’t so clear is the actual direction and theme of this title. Amidst the oxen, fish, and turtles there is clearly something to the game, but as you’ll see from the following review, what that “something” actually is isn’t easy to place your finger on.

It’s Anyone’s Guess

When it comes to theme of Thunderbird Spirit, your guess is pretty much as good as ours, as we can’t quite figure out what the game is supposed to be about. You can somewhat make out a blurry looking Native American reservation in the background behind the reels, but that in itself doesn’t tell anyone a great deal. The game is also lacking in detail, so we were somewhat left scratching our heads. If Genesis Gaming were striving to create a game that is mysterious to pretty much everyone, it’s a goal that they’ve achieved.

The symbols in the game do clear things up a little bit thankfully, even if they aren’t the most well designed symbols we’ve seen. Each of the high value symbols is represented by a Native American stylised animal, with fish, turtles, and oxen being the most ever-present. There are a few nice touches to the design of Thunderbird Spirit, but not enough to make it stand out amidst other Genesis Gaming releases.

Following the Ways of the Spirits

The design of Thunderbird Spirit does have issues, with there being no way of getting past that. However, the gameplay here is actually pretty enjoyable, as the level of paylines available is ramped up the max. There is an emphatic 100 paylines across 5 reels in this low variance release, which means the action is pretty fast paced.

You’ll also find that Thunderbird Spirit is a game applicable to pretty much every budget around. The lowest all-payline wager here is 1.00, with 1000.00 required if you want to max out your efforts. High rollers and bargain hunters have plenty to enjoy here, as mixing up wagers is pretty much encouraged.

Raining on Your Parade

Genesis Gaming has faced plenty of criticism in recent years, with some of it actually being well warranted. On the bonus features front, the brand’s games tend to fall way short of industry standards. This is also proves to a pretty obvious problem in Thunderbird Spirit, as there is minimal replay value.

All any player has to enjoy in Thunderbird Spirit is free spins and wilds. To be honest, we do love these bonus symbols (as you can’t complain about 10 free spins), but it just all feels a bit half-hearted at times.

More of the Same

To say that the controls of Thunderbird Spirit annoyed us would be a huge understatement, as this game is so frustrating to play at times. To do pretty much anything you must constantly move between screens. Look at the paytable? New screen. Change the wager? New screen. Lower the volume? New screen. The list just goes on and on; with Genesis Gaming really needing to find a new approach to controls than this, as what they currently use simply doesn’t function as well as they might think.

Steer clear of Thunderbird Spirit!

Placing Thunderbird Spirit against other Genesis Gaming titles isn’t easy, largely as it does a lot wrong. There just really isn’t any direction here, as the game simply can’t make up its mind at times with regards to what it wants to be. The theme is generally a mystery to us, with the imagery pretty much being all over the place, while the controls and bonus features are below par.

Want our advice? Avoid Thunderbird Spirit, as there is probably very little you’ll enjoy here.
