Savanna King Slot

Released in the first quarter of 2015, Savanna King is an Africa-themed video slot on the Genesis Gaming platform. The adventurous 5-reeler fuses a simple yet fun base game with an enthralling, re-triggering bonus feature. Rich in colour and sound – an authentic African audio track, complete with rhythmic drumming, accompanies gameplay – Savanna King poses the question: what would you buy if you were king?

Available in 22 languages, Savanna King takes place on a 5x3 grid and is one of Genesis Gaming’s ‘All Ways Pay’ slots. Yes, traditional pay-lines have once again been replaced by 1,024 ways-to-win. It should come as no surprise that the majestic Barbary lion is the king of the plain, with other photorealistic African animals rounding out the food chain. Fasten your seat belts and let your slot safari commence, if you are a fan of the other big games in this field like King of Africa, this is one game you simply have to play.

The Open Plain

When you first open the instant-play Flash game, a herd of gazelle sprint across the screen, sending the icons on the reels into a shudder. The animation is a nice touch, and sets the mood for the game that follows. The theoretical return-to-player percentage, incidentally, is 96.21%.

The reel grid appears against a picturesque backdrop of open sky and flat plains. Two gigantic trees flank the grid, which is populated by numerous animal and playing card symbols. The character symbols include a rhino, a giraffe, a zebra and a lion. There are also six card icons: 9, 10, J, Q, K, A. The card icons don’t look like the kind found on regular playing cards, but are etched with tribal-style drawings and patterns. The animal images are rendered in perfect clarity, particularly the lion, which stares out towards the kingdom it proudly dominates.

Along the foot of the screen, you’ll find all the typical controls, although some effort has been made by the developers to jazz things up a little. Thus, the word Spin appears printed on a large, circular shield featuring a tribal pattern. The AutoPlay, Balance, Help, Win and Bet tabs appear printed on large boulders. In the left-hand corner you can regulate your total bet using the + and - buttons. In the demo we test-drove, the minimum bet was $40, while the maximum was $4,000.

Pay-Outs

If you’re wagering just 40 per spin, the pay-outs you can expect are as follows. Five lions in a row will pay 300, four pays 250 and three pays 200. You can even win 50 for two. The rhino is next in line, paying 250, 200, 150 and 20. Then it’s the zebra (200, 150, 100, 20), followed lastly by the rather miffed-looking giraffe (150, 100, 50). The giraffe does not grant a pay-out for two in a line.

The playing cards are the worst-paying, and they rank in order, with the ace being the highest and 9 being the lowest. The best you can hope for is 125 for five aces, or 100 for five kings.

If you hit a combination of animals, the animals will animate to celebrate your win. The rhino, for instance, snorts, while the lion roars.

Savanna Stampede

Three or more Savanna King emblems triggers the Savanna Stampede free spins. For three scatters you’ll win eight free spins, for four it’s 15 and for five it’s 20.

During free spins, any wilds you come across will animate, revealing a multiplier of two, three or four. Multiple multipliers will then be multiplied together, allowing for a potential maximum multiplier of x64 (4x4x4). Free spins can also be re-triggered.

The scatters, which pay in any position, also grant generous pay-outs. If you’re wagering 40, you can look forward to 800 for five, 400 for four and 80 for three.

The wild – which is the word ‘WILD’ printed on an animal skin shield – stands in for all symbols except the scatter. You can thus utilise the wild to help you form pay-line wins. When one or more wilds substitutes in a win, only the highest win is paid. Wilds can appear on reels two, three and four, and they are not linked to values in the pay-table.

King of the Slots

Savanna King is a damn fine slot game. Like all ‘1,024 ways-to-win’ casino games, it provides fast gameplay and regular wins. High points include the terrific graphics, the excellent theme and the exhilarating Savanna Stampede free spins feature, which comes with the added bonus of multipliers.
