Double Bonus Slots is a strange name to give to a slot game all about the Orient. The name itself is generic, not particularly suggestive of genre: indeed, it sounds more like a pub fruit machine. In any case, we can assure you that this game is all about the Far East. The action takes place in a traditional Chinese building with a mansard roof. The brick dwelling is embellished with stone dragons and includes the Double Bonus Slots logo, which features a dragon gilded in gold. The reels are situated against an amber backdrop. The river shimmers in the predawn light, with indistinct silhouettes in the near distance. Be in no doubt, this is a nice game to look at.
The symbols themselves stick to the theme closely. There is a Chinese girl in a traditional robe, various Oriental symbols, a red hand-fan, a tribal mask and a mosaic jug. There’s also a stylised golden icon of a figurine, an Oriental man, a bronze coin and a Double Bonus logo.
Hitting Combos And Winning Cash
As with any 20 payline slot, there are numerous combinations you can hope to hit. All you have to do is make sure the combinations line up on an active pay-line. As much as 10,000 is up for grabs if you play your cards right, though you can get acquainted with the game by playing for free in the first instance. Superior icons include the character symbols. The female trumps the man (down with thousands of years of male patriarchy!), though: she pays 600 for five or 150 for four. As well as being able to replace all symbols except the scatter or bonus, the wild pays a gargantuan 10,000 for five-in-a-line. It also pays 2,000 for four-in-a-line, or 200 for three.
The game’s scatter is the bronze coin. You can’t miss it, though: it says scatter across the bottom. Scatters pay a 100x multiplier for five-in-a-line. It doesn’t seem to function as a regular scatter, though: the Double Bonus icon, rather than the scatter, is the key to winning free spins. Instead, the scatter provides multipliers for three, four or five symbols. Five for three, 25 for four and, as stated, 100 for five-in-a-line.
The bonus symbol is very useful. This appears scattered on reels one and five. If you see it pop up, you can win up to 16 free spins with as much as a x6 win multiplier. This feature can also re-trigger.
Double Trouble
Double Bonus Slots deserves to have a better name, but that’s one of few criticisms you can make of this Eastern slot title. The graphics are impressive, the gameplay is good and the potential for pay-outs should keep you coming back for more.
