Today, most online slot machines are designed to offer something new and eye-catching. That could be a complex bonus round, a slick video introduction, or animated sequences throughout the game. Those are all great, but what about players who want to play a solid, modern version of more traditional slots?
There are still games out there that cater to this market, even if they can sometimes be a bit difficult to notice these days. One excellent example is So Hot, a machine that any player can immediately sit down and be comfortable with, yet which still has enough to offer to fit in with other games at a modern Internet casino.
So Hot is a five-reel, 20-payline slot machine offered by Cadillac Jack. The company is now part of the Amaya Gaming Group, so you may often find their games at sites that also offer NextGen games or those by Cryptologic. On each spin, players are locked into playing all 20 lines, but they can play between one and 10 coins per line; with coin denominations from $0.01 to $1 available, you can spend anywhere from 20 cents to $200 on each spin, making this a solid game for high rollers and budget-minded gamblers alike.
As in most of these games, the object is to match identical symbols from left to right across your paylines. Most of these symbols are classics: there are the card game ranks from nines up through aces, followed by bells, cherries and coins. The biggest standard symbol is the “So Hot” logo, which can earn you up to 1,000 credits per coin wagered if you hit five in a row.
In most cases, it takes a minimum of three in a row to earn a win. However, the So Hot symbol does reward a small prize just for hitting two in a row, as does the nine.
This machine is unique in that it offers two essentially identical wild symbols. There are two “7 Wild” symbols, one of which is red and the other being blue. Each of these symbols can substitute for any standard icon on the reels, helping to make winning prizes.
Each of these wilds can also make its own winning paylines, paying out if you hit two or more in a row. However, it’s worth remembering that you cannot mix and match the two different types for these prizes: you’ll need only red or blue on a payline in order to score those prizes. The maximum award is 5,000 credits for hitting five in a row; at the maximum bet size, this can become a massive 50,000 credit win.
These symbols can also be score scatter wins. Hit three or more of either wild from left to right in any combination, and you’ll win a sizable prize: once again, maxing out at 5,000 credits per coin should you hit five in a row.
This game also features a scatter symbol – a burning heart with the word “scatter” written across it. Unlike many scatters, you will need to hit these consecutively left to right in order to score a win, but they still do not have to appear on a single payline in order to score a win. Any scatter wins are paid out as a multiple of the amount you wagered on the spin, up to a maximum of 40x your bet if you hit five-of-a-kind.
Hitting those scatters can also earn you additional rewards. Hit two or more in a row, and you’ll gain entry into a free game feature, where all of your wins will be doubled. The number of scatters you hit will determine just how many free spins are awarded: just two is enough to get five spins, but hitting all five scatters will earn you a cool 60 free games, enough to rack up some serious cash.
While none of these features are particularly unique or noteworthy, So Hot has stood the test of time in both live and online play, becoming one of the most successful games ever produced by Cadillac Jack. By playing this machine a few times, it is easy to see why. It combines the classic elements that make all slots enjoyable: the potential for big wins, a few surprise bonuses, and easy to understand gameplay. If that sounds like the kind of experience you’re looking for, we highly recommend giving So Hot a try. I'm yet to see any Cadillac Jack games available outside the US, but if you access to online casinos in New Jersey you can play them there for real money.
