Wonder Woman Gold Slot

With the current trend for superheroes on films and TV shows, it’s nice to see one of the better known caped crusaders of the 70s back in town in this 5-reel 40 paylines game by Bally. But will Wonder Woman Gold be wonderfully good or wonderfully bad?

That 70s Show

Although the TV show was finished nearly 40 years ago, the character is still highly popular. This game has captured the disco sparkle, glitz and glamour of the era. If you were one of the show’s many fans, you’ll be taken back in time.

On the left hand side, it has a screenshot of the photogenic Lynda Carter in costume as Wonder Woman, the famous lead from the hit show. It’s far more noticeable than the game’s name. The stars that are so prominent on her outfit are all over the background too, with rays from the stars by her name.

On the right section, there are little stars spread out all over, with a purple and orange background. Rather differently, the spin button is on the right-hand side of the reels, along with a button relating to the bonuses. The bright colours are everywhere but the three jackpots at the top don’t stand out so much. They aren’t in such bright colours, despite each having a coloured star either side. Unsurprisingly, the Major Jackpot has golden ones. The diagrams for each winning line are in the Paytable.

Play TV

How many other shows from that far back have their own slot game? And with an actress who is so happy to be part of the promotion? Carter is on the reels in both her superhero outfit and as Wonder Woman’s alter ego Diana Prince.

What’s nice is that not only are the rights for Carter agreed, but the other star from the show Lyle Waggoner is on here as one of the reels, in his character of Steve Trevor. There are further delights with those familiar with the recognising among other things her knee-high boots and belt and bracelets.

The top prize may only be 600 credits (for Diana Prince) but you will get clips from the show with a winning line, along with a ‘Nice Win’ and coins being flashed across the screen. The picture and card symbols merge as the boots icon is worth the same as the Ace, 120 credits for 5 of a kind. King, Queen and Jack are all worth a maximum value of 80 credits.

There are 5 options of betting stake, 1.25, 1.50, 1.75, 2.00 and 2.25, with the setting button only giving you the chance to mute the music.

Starring Bonus

If you’re a fan of the show, you’ll be in heaven with the bonuses as you’ll get even more clips from the show. When you a see Wildcard of a three-striped symbol on reels 2, 3 or 4, the reel extends all the way down to a picture of the superhero herself.

When you get 3 of the Scatter (Wonder Woman with a strong woman pose) you get 200 credits and you’re into bonus territory. You get a clip from the show and then even more uniquely, you can actually choose what number of free spins you can play. If you go for 8 Free Spins the Wonder Woman symbols replace the Ace, King, Queen and Jack.

If you choose 16 Free Spins, the special Wonder Woman picture replaces King, Queen and Jack while 25 Free Spins has the same symbol replacing Queen and Jack.

Another unusual aspect of the game is the fact you can actually buy bonuses. This is offered even before the game starts but the link is easy to see as it is just above the click button. It’s certainly quirky. It is not explained on the Paytable at what betting level you would be playing at. However, there is further opportunity for extra prizes. When playing, jackpots can be won through getting a blue, red or golden star in Reels 1 and 5. Gold triggers the Mega Jackpot of 500, red is Major 50 credits and blue is Minor with 5 credits.

Wonder-ful

This game may not have so much in the way of high credit prizes, but it isn’t about that. It is really more about having fun and the sense of nostalgia.

While those who weren’t fans of the show will find little to hold their attention (other than wondering whether they like the possibility of paying for bonuses), those who do will wonder why this game took so long to happen.
