Jewel of the Dragon is a wonderful recreation of the much-loved land casino slot game. This Bally Technologies slot game features 5 reels and 40 paylines and offers wilds, free spins, and a couple of interesting and unique bonus rounds. This is not your usual dragon-themed slot game as it uses a couple of extra features that help it to really stand out from the crowd.
This game can be played on Mac and Linux but isn't yet available for ios, Android or Windows mobile. Bally slot fans who have played the Sumo Kitty slot may see some similarity as it uses the same game engine, though obviously this one has a different theme.
This Dragon-themed slot feels like it's come straight from a medieval adventure with symbols such Crowns, Money-Shields and Bells adorning the reels alongside more common symbols such as Wilds, Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, and 9. Sitting atop the reels you will find the cutest dragon ever in what appears to be a dungeon and there are jewels scattered all about the reels beneath the dragon's perch.
Bally has done a good job in reproducing the action in which Hot Zones fall from above the reels during each spin. The Hot Zones have a potential of turning up to 20 symbols into wilds. The Zone sizes keep on varying too. A couple of times the Hot Zones miss the reels completely, but when they hit the reels, big wins can be had as each hot zone that stays on the reels becomes a wild. This is probably my favorite feature of this game as you can make some huge wins.
Any symbol that falls within the Hot Zone is turned into a wild. If for instance the Hot Zone falls on a Bonus symbol, the Bonus symbol turns into a Wild Bonus and it can therefore act as a Wild or a Bonus symbol depending on the winning combination. More so, if the Hot Zone falls on symbols with the Diamond Overlay then all those symbols are turned into Wilds with a Diamond Overlay. One or more Wilds in a winning combination will substitute all regular symbols apart from the Diamond and Bonus symbols to form a winning combination.
Three scattered Diamond Overlays start the Drop Zone Bonus feature. The Diamond Overlays appear on the middle reels only. The Overlays work together with the underlying symbol and they never affect the pays of the underlying symbol. Before any wins are awarded, you will be asked to select 1 of 3 Diamonds to reveal your Drop Zone Bonus. The Drop Zone Bonus is randomly dropped on to the reels and any symbols within its borders are turned into Wilds. All pays are then evaluated and awarded.
The other feature is the Dragon Nudge Bonus feature, which is triggered when certain Hot Zones fall outside the reels. When this happens the Dragon will appear and nudge a Hot Zone down the reels.
Three or more Bonus Wilds or Bonus symbols start the Free Spins rounds. Three of such symbols will get you 8 free spins plus; 4 of such symbols will get you 8 free spins plus 2X your total stake; and 5 in a line will get you 8 free spins plus a 5X your total stake multiplier.
The game features 40 fixed paylines, but you can still find a bet value within your budget using the adjustable bets per line that range from 0.01 to 10.00. The total stake that you can place when playing maximum bets per line is 400 coins. The Wild is the highest paying symbol and 5 in a line will see you walk with 1,000 coins. All winning combinations pay from left to right apart from those formed by scatters.
The Hot Zone series from Bally has proven immensely popular with Sumo Kitty and Playboy being 2 of the more popular titles released in recent times. I loved the How to Train Your Dragon movies so for me this game was always going to be one I enjoyed. The fact you can hit huge wins if you manage to stack the hot zones or simply hit big in the bonus rounds makes this slot a keeper. Have fun!
