Dream Rose Slots

Aristocrat have covered a decent amount of themes over the years, but racking my brain, I can’t seem to remember a medieval romance amongst them. Now, I would state we are assuming that’s the idea behind the theme from dream rose as any game release information focused more on the gameplay and cabinet than the style.

What a cabinet though – Dream Rose uses the new Helix cabinet from Aristocrat and, I have to say, I’m impressed, with more leg room for lanky players like me, an insane integrated sound system and new infinity LCD screens, it’s going to make even marginally interesting slot themes really stand out from the crowd.

So with that advantage – will we be dreaming of this game on our next slots trip?

Theme

The new Vegas slot we are playing today revolves around four distinct characters on the screen, the first is a forbidding dark knight who seems to guard a tower containing, of course, a beautiful blonde damsel in distress. The clichéd prince charming is on the way to the rescue, armed curiously with an enchanted rose supplied by what we assume is some sort of sorceress, we hate to be vague but the game doesn’t offer enough immersion to fill out the details.

The music is pretty good on this slot, keeps in tone with the whole medieval bit, suspenseful and a little dramatic, though you are straight back to stock casino sounds for big wins, of course, if you are hitting one of those, you aren’t likely to mind are you?

The other two premium symbols on this slot are the key, (to the tower perhaps?) and a diamond locket, cutely shaped in the form of a heart. The one you really want though, is the scatter, which on this game is a mega symbol in the form of the tower itself, this triggers the games only bonus – a spins round. Fleshing out the bottom end of the pay-table, somewhat sadly for a modern game, are the familiar A-9 playing card symbols.

Gameplay & Features

Dream Rose definitely makes use of the high definition screens on the new cabinet by granting you not one, but two 8x5 reel sets to play on. Symbols which match from one screen to another are transferred into extra wilds so this integrates nicely into the overall gameplay, especially with stacked symbols flying around frequently.

Given the base game play is pretty lively, it’s no great surprise that there is only one bonus, the good news is that the 15 free spins you get from picking up a mega symbol are also played on both reels and you have a shot at re-triggering them.

Last but not least are the rose coins, these little icons can attach to any main symbol on a spin, accumulate enough of them on both reels in one spin to trigger one of five progressive jackpots available on the slot, just to add that extra bit of excitement to this budding romance.

Summary

If you can ignore the slightly creepy cast of the game, and the awful rendering of their animated movements, this is actually a really playable slot. It’s around the medium volatility mark and has bet sizing of a wide enough range to appeal to many different slot gamers and with even high amounts on show in the base game, would seem to have decent payout potential.

Personally, I don’t think it’s Aristocrat’s best effort, you’d be hard pressed for me to give that title to anything but the Buffalo slot, though certain of my family members are more attached to the Britney Spears machine.
